Lighting up your Home

Table Lamps

Ambient lighting can sometimes be overlooked in a home and we tend to think spotlights and ceiling lighting. Table lighting, however, covers all three areas of practicality, ambience and style.

Tips for choosing your new lamp...
1. Before you make your purchase, choose where you are placing your light first. Check the exact height at which it will sit, as well as its distance from the wall, sofa, or bed. Don't forget to check the width of the shade too as this can have a big impact on the feel of your room. As a general rule of thumb, we use and recommend to our customers at Grandad's Shed, pick a lamp where the bottom of the shade is at your eye level when you are seated or resting. This tends to be the most practical and aesthetically pleasing for most homes.
2. Another quick trick is to measure the table height and width to check your lamp fits properly. It should be no more than 1½ times the height of the furnishing it sits on, and the lampshade shouldn’t overlap the table. This means your lamp will not dwarf your table; both lamp and table can sit together in harmony.
