5 Clever Built In Storage Solutions

It just takes a quick scroll through our Instagram or Facebook profiles to know that here at Grandad's Shed in Yorkshire, we love a clever storage solution. From rustic country cottages to shiny new builds, we're firm believers that there is a made to measure solution for every home that will transform how you live and make the most of your space.

In today's blog, I'm going to run you through a selection of our favourite made to measure pieces from the past few months. It's packed with lots of inspirational interiors ideas for your homes!

Reading Nook

We begin with a cosy reading corner. Jo needed a happy place in her home where she could relax and unwind with a book and cuppa. The window spaces were perfect for it. One used to be the home of a chest of drawers that obscured the view out of the window and didn't make the most of the nook. To make the most of the limited space, we transformed the area by working a practical oak topped chest complete with seat cushion. The drawers are made as a freestanding unit to match my clients existing furniture in her bedroom.

We finished off the look with a pretty cascade roman blind build into the recess of the window.

Kitchen Island

If, like Rosemary, you have a kitchen that features a decent space, you might want to consider adding more countertop area without losing the feeling of space. Made to request, we matched chunky solid wood with an open space underneath to keep light flowing through the space. The bench was colour was finished to match the rest of the kitchen for a seamless transition. It's safe to say this beauty has transformed the dynamic of Rosemary's kitchen!

Awkward Hallway Space Transformed

"They are absolutely perfect- thank you so Much!!! We are absolutely delighted with them."

Hallways and under-the-stairs spaces can be some of the most under-utilised areas of our homes. Take this customer. They needed extra storage space in a corner that had become a 'no-go' area. Look at that transformation! We built cupboards around the corner in a stunning oak wood. Note that the handles were selected to compliment the stair balustrade! We even added in a secret door to the under stairs storage area to maintain a slick appearance. If you have one of those awkward areas, some clever storage solutions could be perfect.

Eave Alcoves

Another incredible before and after transformation! Here is a clever way to maximise the awkward alcoves in one of our recent built-in bedroom projects. This loft room is built into the roof space which means it's full of awkward angles. It was screaming out for some clever storage solutions as its been designed to be a nifty office through the day. We built cupboards and shelves around the chimney breast to create a functional and yet beautiful area.

We finished this look off with Cirsiun wallpaper on the chimney breast to make it a real feature of the room. This pattern perfectly matches the stunning roman blinds in the dormer window.

Custom Coat and Boot Rack

My client was stressed with the never-ending cycle of sorting through heaps of coats and shoes on the stairs as there wasn't a designated space for them. Her entrance leads onto a narrow hallway and she was in need of a storage solution that also wouldn't block the passageway. Now coats and shoes have a handy home at the front door whilst also making a striking impression to visitors.

We designed and built a hallway stand to sit perfectly at the bottom of the stairs. It was finished in a lovely Frenchic Wolf Whistle paint.
