Which is Right for You?

When it comes to selecting dining stools, one of the most critical decisions you'll need to make is the height. Counter height stools typically range from 90cm, while bar height stools are typically above 1 metre. So, how do you know which height is best for your space?

Counter Height Stools

If you have a kitchen island or a smaller dining space, counter height stools may be the way to go. These stools are ideal for family dining as they provide a comfortable seating option while still allowing for plenty of legroom. Plus, with our reupholstery services, you can easily update your existing stools to match your new design aesthetic.

Bar Height Stools

If you have a home bar or a taller dining table, bar height stools may be the perfect option for you. These stools provide a sleek and stylish look while still being practical for entertaining guests. Whether you're enjoying a casual drink with friends or hosting a formal dinner party, bar height stools offer a comfortable seating option that is sure to impress.

The Height Difference

Counter height dining stools typically have a seat height of 70cm, making them a great choice for kitchen counters and islands that are around 90cm tall. These stools are also ideal for family-friendly spaces, as they are easier for children and elderly people to climb onto. It often means all the dining and food prep is done at the same level which can be great for entertainment or buffet-style service.

On the other hand, bar height dining stools have a seat height of 75-85cm, making them perfect for bar counters that are often just over a metre tall. These stools are better suited for adults and are ideal for entertaining spaces, such as home bars and game rooms.

Top tip: don't forget about elbow room when it comes to spacing out your seats. We recommend spacing out stools by around 15cm in between. And for wider stools, try 20-25cm.
